Blessed Guest: Ramadhan & The Qur'an

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan

Karangkraf HQ, Shah Alam

Introduction:
1. We normally view the month of Ramadhan as the month that features fasting and taraweeh, but Ramadhan is actually (as what is mentioned in the Book of Allah as) the magical month of the Qur'an.

In the month of Ramadhan, it's when we..
Give up our sins
Multiply Masjid hours
Do a lot of extras (referring to deeds and such)

2. The key to the closeness to Allah (indeed, for us) is the Qur'an.

3. Start all over, as though we have no relationship w/ the Qur'an (in previous times).

4. The Qur'an is, surely, the guidance for people.

5. Reflect (on the ayahs) & think (about them) like it's the first time!
Fulfill the rights of Ramadhan.

// In reference to Surah Al-Jumu'ah, surah no. 62:

6. The surah focuses on these three parts;
a. The believers (ummah) and The Messenger
b. Bani Israel
c. The Friday prayer
This surah is Madani (sent down after the Prophet Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam's Hijrah).

In Madinah we have three groups of people:
- The mu'minoon (the strongest of all, in spiritual terms)
- The Muslims
- The munafiqun

7. A Musabbihat (wasn't sure of the spelling) is a surah to increase the imaan of the ummah.
(Al-Jumu'ah is one.)

8. EVERYTHING in the skies, & on the Earth are doing tasbeeh (to Allah).

9. Nobody should remind you to do tasbeeh, (simply) because EVERYTHING around you is doing tasbeeh.

10. All the creations of Allah are reminding us to (do tasbeeh) so why aren't we doing so?

*11. AYAH 1 of the surah
mentioned four names of Allah (in one row!!)
Al Malik: The King
Al Quddus: The Pure/Purifyer
Al 'Aziz: (refer.. 'Izzah): The Respected/The One with Authority
Al Hakeem: The Wise (The One w/ Wisdom)

*12. AYAH 2 of the surah
Tells us about The Messenger, Rasulullah (pbuh!)
First of all..
The ummiyyin refers to the condition of not being able to read & write (illiterate).
The ummiyyun refers to the people (who relates to ummiyyin).
Allah's messenger was chosen upon the community of ummiyyin; of all people including those who can read & write. Lesson learned: everybody deserves respect.

extra note: Tilawaah is when our eyes & finger simultaneously follow upon reading (the ayahs of the Book).

13. What proof is available to tell that Rasulullah (pbuh) is Allah's messenger?
He was from within the ummiyyin; so when he talks (in reference to the Qur'an), people believe Him immediately. They know that those weren't His words (but the words of none other than Allah SWT).

14. Allah's knowledge does not need to depend on where you are, because resources are eeeeeverywhere.

**15. What the Messenger did (His duties):
To read the ayahs (from the Qur'an)
To purify them
To teach the Book (the Qur'an, to the people)
To teach them wisdom

16. A king is known by his signs (referring to a kingdom & whatnot).
Allah.. is Al Malik, The King.

17. The Book (of Allah; the Qur'an) are of laws / constitution, mandated upon you (of us all..).

**18. Notice how AYAH 1 & AYAH 2 correlate:
Ayah 1 speaks about Allah's names
Ayah 2 speaks about the duties of the Messenger

19. At all times (no matter the situation) we need both the task.. and the method.

20. Rasulullah's mission was to bring a corrupted community into the light of imaan.

21. #getbackontrack! Relate yourself (me, too) to these ayahs.
Re-feel the connection. Note: refer point 15.

22. The greaaaaatest gift of all would be Allah's speech.
NO other religion gives direct messages from God (like ours!).

23. Revive the sunnah of the Qur'an

24. The ummiyyin couldn't understand back then (illiteracy), and it wasn't their fault.
But we.. we aren't illiterate. If we care less (about the Qur'an), it's our OWN fault.

25. We are responsible to educate ourselves and our families.. (the Book of Allah).
The primary thing is to UNDERSTAND the Qur'an.
Tajweed & memorization, they're all secondary. They are for us to UNDERSTAND the Qur'an better.

26. Physical emergency: wars and earthquakes.
Spiritual emergency: unable to understand the Qur'an

27. The month of The Qur'an iz coming!!

28. BE the family of the Book of Allah.

29. Purification:

i. of the mind-
Allah teaches us how to think, to accept reality & to ask all the right questions.
ii. of the heart-
The heart has a lot of diseases. We need to get better in order to diminish / control our greed, jealousy, lust etc.
There are NO other book that can do both types of purification SIMULTANEOUSLY. Both aspects are balanced, thus there'd be no corruption.

30. Experience the change. Get serious. Feeel the ayahs of Allah.

31. ^ Both the teacher & student need to be serious.

32. You need not only knowledge, but also *wisdom* to deal w/ other people. Don't expect everyone to be on the same level as you are.

33. It's SO easy for us to underestimate other people-- but we don't rly know what they'll turn out to be someday.

34. We have to make sure that people love the Deen..

35. The Book came to bring hope.
Nowadays we can't even feel the hope in it.

36. Believe in the formula! (point 15). The Book can transform any community.

37. "There are other (people) than the Arabs (on board).. they just haven't joined them YET." :D

38. "That's the favor of Allah, He gives it to anyone He wants."
Take Allah's gift, share it w/ others.

39. THIS is the time to restart!

40. The Sahabahs, they are waiting.. for us.

41. Allah will put barakah in your (mine too in sya Allah) efforts because it's the month of the Qur'an.

42. The Qur'an & the month itself are both guidance for humanity.

43. Allah decided, that we.. should be blessed, w/ Islam.
