Tafseer: Surah An Noor (2)
Ustaz Nouman Ali Khan
Masjid Wilayah
Mothers of the believers have (much) higher stds than anybody else.
Aisyah calls her father Abu Bakr As Siddiq when she's mad at him (: and not "my father" in her narrations.
Zainab and Aisyah RA "used to compete for the Prophet's love" :) but when asked about Aisyah- Zainab replied that she 'is careful, observant, and knows anything but good'. May Allah bless her for being careful.
--
The ayah(s) that prove Aisyah innocent:
Ayah 11
"Innallazhina (Allah is being specific)" because Allah knows what others don't, and He is removing doubt (about Aisyah).
The Quran uses brief words, to say a lot.
"Bring fwd the slander"
Ja a means 'to bring fwd / to commit', not literally, i.e. slander (big things)
Ata is similar, but used for small things committed / brought fwd.
Slander is VERY easy in social media.
Don't spread w/o care.
Usbah is a bad word to refer to a gp (compared to ummah, jemaah, kaum etc). Usbah is a gp of ppl who cause problems.
They crack an ummah open- an abusive gp 'fm among you'. May Allah make us not fm them.
Aisyah & Safwan are innocent-
Allah uses this ayah to refer to the past (Aisyah / Safwan) and ALSO to give univ. advice: no victims / bad guys are mentioned.
"La tahsabuhu": don't think abt it/ badly
It's ok to have a bad thought but do not act upon it, but when it comes to the Believers, even thoughts are forbidden.
Allah is the architect of incidents- :)
///
Mistakh (the ppl who brought the slander), Hamna (Zainab's sister)-
Be EXTRA careful abt what you say abt other ppl.
Believers are close to Allah (became 2nd person)- and "them" (3rd person) is used fm Allah meaning to 'distance' Himself fm them
"Ma" means sth unknown, the punishment is unknown, because it (the issue) goes on and on
"Makta tsaba minal ithm" = of the sin that he worked hard on / earn (sarcastically said)
"Ikti tsab" is to spend on sth that will break you hugely.
"Ithm" means sin. Also used for gambling / drinking alcohol. To invest in sth that hurts you back / will have a penalty.
((Realize the consequences of your words, not just your actions.))
Ithm reflects laziness- for the ppl who stop to think (nicely)
"Wallazhi tawalla"- the one who started it / took charge & do damage / has the biggest piece of it.
Wali- somebody who takes charge / is hugely in charge.
Kibr (is the infinitive, the superlative of Huge)
Tawalla- take charge / to make friends.
'The one who befriended his own arrogance-' they make others look bad to make themselves look better. A huge punishment for a huge share of sth so bad.
"Punishments fit the crime."
Atheem- the one constantly in ithm (ppl spread it on behalf)- continuous sin; e.g. the corrupted media manager who directs reporters to find terrible news/lies to report on.
Hypocrites are in the lowest pits of the hellfire.
///
If something bad happens to you..
and you deserve it, it's to even out for what you did.
and you DON'T deserve it, it's a test fm Allah- don't ever think bad abt it.
There's a hijab (barrier) between seeable & unseeable realities.
///
Ayah 12:
"Lau la"- 'how come you didn't do it?' ("Didn't disbelieve the lie upon hearing it) (**Stern tone needed when reciting**)
You- all Muslims
Them- the ones who committed the crime
Sami' tumu- heard sth of it
Sami' hum lakum- heard all of it
"The believers" (3rd person) is for Allah's distancing
--
He makes the rest of the ummah a part of the ummah (the usage of 'yourselves', rather than 'each other' i.e. Give salaam to yourselves)- the ummah should be inseparable.
Just one part of the body is aching (one tooth aches) and the whole body becomes sick/uncomfortable. (How the ummah should be exactly).
--
You don't take sth as mubeen (clear lie) w/o bayyinah (proof).
The power of the benefit of the doubt :)
Ayahs 13-15
"Behold, your tongues!" of things you have no knowledge of - said seriously, sternly
///
Ayah 17:
This is shock therapy, so that you'd nvr repeat the mistake, and Allah indeed wants all that is well for you.
If you've no imaan, all you see is harsh words w/o love-
Speak to make people understand- not merely to get words out. Be a teacher.
///
Ayah 21:
"Mayyashak"- whoever He (Allah) wants to purify //
whoever wants purification
(Means both- according to context)
Ayah 22:
The possessors of great favors/vastness fm Allah (i.e. Abu Bakr's imaan)
Aisyah is the integrity of the Deen,
The Mother of the believers
Abu Bakr's daughter
(..even the stress overwhelms him as her father), Abu Bakr just decides to stop giving charity to the wrongdoer (rather than to kill him etc)
the ppl we give sadaqah to, they are helping us.. we're not helping them.
Forgiveness is for those who seek them, not for those who consistently abuse (i.e. in the context of ppl who misuse this Surah for their own good)
It's about moving fwd, and not abt putting yourself in harm's way.
The truth has to come first- being sabr does not mean keeping it all in and being quiet abt what is wrong.
To forgive is to actually let yourself go (fm vengeance) and to move on-
Pardon lovingly- and yes your compensation is Allah's responsibility, even if it's not mentioned :)
Ayah 24:
Witnesses
"Her chaste, her innocence was revealed in the skies" (regarding Aisyah)
Rewards should be in accordance to the deed.
